Heritage

Heritage preservation is to celebrate our collective history and ensure this history is preserved for future generations. The City of London has lost so much of its history and is at risk of losing what’s left. Preserving our historical built form adds character and interest to our streetscapes making the city more unique for us to enjoy and memorable for tourists. We must find ways to conserve our cultural heritage that we have inherited from our past so that we can pass on to future Londoners.

  • Support the London Plan on heritage conservation and preservation in new development
  • Promote identification of cultural heritage resources including individual heritage resources, heritage conservation districts, cultural heritage landscapes, and archeological resources
  • Ensure that new development and public works are undertaken that enhance and are sensitive to cultural heritage resources
  • Acquire cultural heritage properties for the purpose of maintaining them as municipal assets and to provide good stewardship
  • Promote repurposing of existing built heritage assets to support green building design to reduce demand on natural resources and to create affordable housing
